A low-carb diet will help you control your blood sugar levels and often helps with blood pressure too. But only you and a dietician working together can determine a diet that you will be able to stick to. We all have different food preferences.
I myself would rather be on some medication (generic metformin is cheap and although some people get GI problems at first, these generally disappear) than having blood sugar levels up to 9.9, as this can lead to heart disease as well as other complications.
However, a low-carb diet might do as well for you.
