What kind of exercise should a person with Diab. II, and bulging disks in back do?
If you've never been fit this would be an opportune time! Bulging disks need muscular support and exercise will do well for your diabetes control! My suggestion would be to find a mat Pilates class. Mat classes are designed to build intrinsic muscle strength. Meaning the small muscles that support vital components of movement. The classes are not a sweat class, in fact often felt to easy by hardier souls. But in my opinion everyone should be doing a basic mat class every once in a while to make sure proper muscles are engaged and remain healthy!
Look around and see if you can sample classes or talk to teachers to strike a cord with them. Usually you need to commit to a 10 week series and that will be a great for you and your back!

Hi Susan,
It's hard for me to answer this, because there are too many things I don't know about you. However if walking is too hard, my impulse is to say water. You should probably try to be in a pool to take the pressure of all the joints of your body. Water is tremendously healing for joints of all kinds! Spinal, shoulder, knees, ankles, etc. Water allows the muscles to get the workout they need and the joints to be impact free.
However, if you are confined to home, this idea may pose a problem! You could try some pilates core strengthening, there are some videos and youtube selections to research. You want to look at beginners core work. I looked at a couple that said "Pilates toning and strengthening" and they were nothing to do with Pilates! If you look around, see if you can find videos that are created by someone holding a Polestar certification or Kane School of Integration, or the original school started by Joseph Pilates, New York Pilates Studio. These are very good rehab format certifications.

I know some of the exercises but would like to stay home because of tranportation. I am also disabled, but my doctor would love to see me doing something and these could get me moving a little better. I hope. I`ve tried walking and that just hurts. I`m worse the next day for it. It`s my back and my hips. Degenertive dic deasese. Sorry for my spelling.
