My husband is having extremely low blood sugar at night before bed, even though he has eaten his snack.  He is following the dietician's diet and restricting sugar and carbs the way that is appropriate.  His suger dips below 50. What could be wrong? Thanks   JGcgull@aol.com

That is getting very low! I assume that he's on insulin? We'd need to know what kind and if he's type one or two. This should be reported to his doctor as he'll need a shot of Glucagon before you get a resolution here! It may be as simple as cutting back the insulin dosage. He may be reducing carbs or calories without compensating for it by adjusting his insulin.

Does he drink alcohol of any kind?  That also can cause  a low, just in case.

Cheers!

As a type 1, I found that increasing activity or exercise after supper would greatly increase the chance of going low at night right around 2:00. Cutting back insulin was the key. I have even set my alarm clock to go off around 1:00 to check because the worse lows I have ever had were in the middle of the night!
