The last A1C test done on my child was 6.3.  Her fasting glocose levels are always in the high 80's or low 90's.  Her physician thinks she should have an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test to see if she has diabletes.

She is overweight, but is in a 'Fit Kid' program (fitness and healthy eating), sponsored by our local hospital.  She has lost 4 pound in 4 weeks.

Do you think she needs the OGTT?

ITMOM-

Hi! I am not a Doctor but speaking from my experience.  I am a Diabetic and my recent A1C test was 6.3. Endo's like to see anything under 6.0.  If her fasting levels are 80-90 that's not bad at all! If her Doctor recommends the test, why not have it done?  I would say have it done:) so, the Doctor can feel better about your Daughter's health.  Type 2 is becoming a huge epidemic in children. OGTT will help determine if your daughter is diabetic, it'll only help your daughter.   Hope this helps
