As a newly diagnosed person  a year ago, I concentrated only on achivieving my target BG levels. Once I did, the weight just started to drop off, also my blood chemistry, Lipids, improved to the normal level.  I started with the ADA levels of 45gm carb per meal and 15gm per snack as a baseline.  From intense testing I was able to determine that 20 to 30gm per meal worked well for me and 10 to 15gm per snack.  I eat and medicate, oral meds only, by the clock.
