Q: Can I eat yogurt by itself as a diabetic following a low carb plan?

When I was first diagnosed as having diabetes, the nutrititionist gave me a low-carb plan to follow which I am using successfully.  I miss eating yogurt and would like to incorporate it into my plan.  My question is this: she told me that I cannot eat carbs without having a protein at the same time.  I can eat protein alone, but never carbs alone.  Is the protein in yogurt enough so that I can eat the yogurt alone, but still be meeting the carb/protein at the same time requirement?

Carol, plain yogurt is low carb, its the fruit in the bottom and the other stuff that will raise the yogurt to high carb.  I have a friend who buys plain yogurt and adds crystal lite to her yogurt.  They are more healthy options as well.  Here is David Mendosa's post on Greek Style yogurt and he is a serious low carb man! I appreciate you taking the time to respond but that is still not my question.  I am aware of the differences in plain vs fruited yogurt, regular vs Greek, etc.  I have been a label reader for years and also read a lot of nutrition related articles and books.  I simply want to know, regardless of which yogurt I choose, if I can count the protein content in the yogurt as my protein requirement and eat the yogurt as a stand-alone food? Thanks
