Q: Why can't Byetta be used in newly diagnosed Type I diabetes to restore what few islet cells remain?

Hi, I am the mom of a 12 y/o Type I diabetic who still has some islet cell activity.  Why can't we use the Byetta to enhance his honeymoon period?  Byetta is expensive, but now FDA approved, has side effects.  Thanks

JJ-

Hello! Nice too meet you! Wouldn't it be nice to be able to use Byetta to enhance the honeymoon period??? Oh my gosh, I would love it and so would the whole Type 1 population. You never know!

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease is sponsoring a clinical trial to see the effects on exenatide (byetta) to see what the effects are on Type 1 diabetic's.  If you need more information let me know.

Good Luck,
