Q: Is it a good idea to married - being a type 1 for about 20 years now

Hi

I am type 1 diabetic for about 20 years now and I am from southern part of India. I was diagnoised with this when I was in secondary school.

I stay alone by myself (god will help only those who help themself), since my parents too are diabetics (type 2), my brother takes care of my parents .. thanks to him to share all this responsibility all for himself.

Lately... I was trying to look for a suitable match as I feel alone .. but for no surprise, I get rejected. But off late, I started to look out for persons like me. But looking through various post here wondering if this was a wise thought of getting married. Seen lots of disturbing articles about mood swimgs when sugar level werent undercontrol, and marriage breakups. I want a happy and smooth life and not to put myself into trouble. I havent seen any happy marriages in the various post here.

I take good care of myself, regularly go out for gym/walk/jog/swim with good sugar control. I was also have esstential hypertension and even take medications for the same regularly.

Kindly suggest.

Thanks

sunder

Hi sunderb123,

There's no reason that your diabetes would prevent you from having a happy marriage! There are many members of our community who do have great marriages with diabetes. You should read our expert Kelsey Bonilla's latest post, the patient perspective, for a look at a successful marriage and how support from loved ones is helpful in diabetes care.

It's true that mood swings can occur when blood sugars are not in good control, but you are ahead of the game because you are aware that that can happen and are taking good care of your diabetes.

Hi Sunder

I couldn't believe that u also have same doubts as I've regarding matrimony...i also got frustrated after so many rejections but then got an advice fm the same site that i better start looking for someone who fully understands what diabetes is all about....well i guess in India people are not as accepting as in Europe or America..I don't think we need to get depressed...there's surely someone made very special for us special people..
