I've been taking Lantus for seven or eight years and I've taken it three different ways. At first, the doctor told me to take it in one shot at night. Then, I was told to split the dose and take half in the morning and half at night, due to the very low blood sugars I get almost every night between 3 and 6 am. I was getting those lows even before I was using Lantus, but the doctor thought it was worth a try. Splitting the dose into two shots didn't stop me from getting those middle of the night lows though. Just recently, my endo. told me to start taking my Lantus in one shot in the morning and I'm still getting low just about every night, but at least I haven't gotten as low as 29 again.
