Q: can i take byetta if i dont have diabetes and am on atenonol

i have a mitral valave prolaspe and have been on atenonol for 10yrs i am 35 and gained lots of weight from   low energy  can i take byetta?

Hi Peggy,

Thank you for your question. Byetta is approved only for the treatment of diabetes, and only for patients taking other medications that are not fully controlling their diabetes. Although Byetta is associated with weight loss, the weight loss is minimal (only a few pounds in most patients). If you are interested in weight loss, I would recommend talking to your doctor to see if there is a medication or over-the-counter supplement available that is both safe and effective for you.
