my fasting glucose if normal but after meals is high. Is there another explanation than diabetes?

Five years ago I was told that a urine test indicated that I had sugar levels within that of someone diabetic. My doctor tested my level fasting, and I was normal so he told me not to worry about it. Last week, I attended a health fair where I had a blood glucose level of 141 an hour after a breakfast bar and coffee, and 63 an hour after I had a half sandwich!  I bought a monitor and have tested over the past three days and find that in the a.m., before eating, I'm about 70 and after eating dinner, am as high as 181 (even though I hadn't eaten a large meal). What do I do if my doc again points only to the fasting glucose reading as normal?

Hello! I am not sure why you Physician is only testing your fasting bg's.  I would recommend you asking your Physician to send you to the lab to have the proper lab work done; it's not fair to you...not knowing.  I would explain to him what you explained here and see what he says. If he doesn't act on it maybe you can talk to another Physician.
