Sunday, August 10, 2008 Sherry asks

Q: My sugar levels are better when I stop the metformin (but I can't convince my doctor of this). Why?

However, when I stop the metformin and my sugars go back to normal I start gaining weight. It seems wrong to take a drug just to keep from gaining weight; especially when it makes my sugars go up.

Sherry-

I am not sure why he would keep you on a medication that doesn't help your blood sugar.  You would need to consult with your Physician and try to get an answer.  He may need adjust medications but only your physician can make that decision. You can also talk to your pharmacist.  We have a diabetes drug information section here at health central. The diabetes drug information gives you information on dosage, storage, precautions and side affects and drug interactions. I hope this helps.
