Q: What makes blood sugar 160 i the morning after a reading of 103 2 hrs after evening meal?

My husband has type 2 diabetes, and is tryinng to keep his HA1C under 7. He is careful about how and what he eats. When his blood sugar number is low (80-120) two hours after dinner (his last food for the day), his morning blood sugar is 160. Why would his morning number be just uder 120 after a dinner of aldente pasta with meatballs? His number two hours after a pasta diner is 180.  We are so confused. Could somebody please help? My husband was finally diagnosed with Type 2 when he presented at his doctor's office, already having neuropathy symptoms. We are desperately trying to get this condition under better control.

Joan-

Hello! it sounds like your husband maybe having an issue with either the dawn phenonmeon or the somogyi effect.   I've had bouts with the dawn phenonmeon.  The dawn phenonmeon is were your body produces horomones during the early AM hours. So even if your husband was low when he went to bed, he could still wake up high.  I try to exercise, cut out bed time snack and eat a low carb dinner; it's worked out for me so far.  Hope this helps.
