Hi all!

I was just diagnosed with type-2 diabetes and I need to get my weight under control. But I have trouble staying motivated and don't know how to get back into an exercise routine. Can someone provide any tips for getting back into a routine?

Thanks!

Thanks for your question. Check out David Mendosa's SharePost "Overcoming Exercise Inertia" for some good ideas.

Hello Jenny-O!

There are quite a few articles, shareposts and discussions about exercise on Health Central. You can read more about exercise and the benefits here in this database.  I found "Ugh, Exercise, who needs it? You do!" particularly helpful.

David Mendosa also wrote a sharepost called Good, Better and Best which was helpful. You can read the entire article here. It can be hard to get motivated, but there is a good article about motivation here. I like the point it makes about making exercise a menu. Pick one from column A (treadmill) and two from column B (laps around the track) and if I am good, I get dessert! (20 minutes in the steam sauna, ahhhhhhhhhhh) lol.

I think the best advice though is to get a buddy. Someone to keep you moving, motivated and someone who you can share time with, whether it be a friend, partner, or workmate. It's always better in twos!

Take care and stay in touch, let us know how you are doing!!

Hi Jenny,

I find that getting "mad" motivates me.  I visualize diabetes as the enemy and excercise is my weapon of choice.  As the commercial says, "Just Do It".

Best Wishes,

Pam
