Does CholestOff work in lowering cholesterol?
I am Type 2 diabetic, and I also have high cholesterol (244). I was wondering about the over-the-counter cholesterol medication called CholestOff. Does anyone know if it is a good help? I have read something about esters and sterols being a problem.
Hi Robbia,
Dr William Davis is a heart disease specialist on Health Central. In a sharepost where Dr Davis answered questions about Niacin as a helpful ingredient when lowering risks of heart attack, the subject of CholestOff came up. Dr Davis weighed in on CholestOff saying;
"I continue to have reservations about the sterol component. There are data, principally in the European literature, though originating with a very respected Finnish group, that suggest that there may be a segment of the population that absorbs sterol esters into the blood--which is not supposed to happen. It is probably a problem in only a small portion of the population, if at all, but it has made me wary of advocating the sterol product. " .
