I have had type 1 diabetes for almost 44 years. I came out of a tough marriage four years ago and took a year of counseling to get through the divorce. I am not currently working, my Mom who developed Colon Cancer passed away in December and I moved to be near my Dad and his wife. I am feeling more and more insecure about my future and my ability to earn income. In addition, since I am brittle, I am limiting my driving as much as possible and am trying to find a way to work from home. I would be more than happy to consider any suggestions but money and travel are a bit of an issue right now--at least in my mind. FYI--I am in good control and have no major complications from the disease except hypoglycemic unawareness which makes things a bit harder.
I don't mean to be so concerned about the healthcare issue but I have been paying for insurance out of pocket since my divorce and simply feeling helpless at this point with affordability of things. I am starting to use a Canadian Pharmacy for most of my medications and found the least expensive test strips but since I am not currently able to work outside my home and with the downturn of the economy it seems especially tough right now. Any suggestions for someone who has had type 1 for almost 44 years?
