Tuesday, July 15, 2008 Dale asks

Q: How do I go abt getting my husbands sugar to come down to a safe area? I am careful on what we eat b

We are careful on what foods we eat because of other health problems he has but we aren't gaining any ground on his sugar. His readigs are in the area of 12.0- 19.0. I would really like to get a copy of a diet that would help lower his numbers. He also has heart problems and respitory problems.

Dale-

Hello!  good job on watching what you eat, I know it can be a hard thing to do at times.  Have you discussed your meal plan with a dietician or someone qualified in diabetic meal planning? If not, you might want to consider doing so.  I know there are a lot of hidden ingredients in food, and we miss the carbs and hidden sugars, getting the extra help from an expert helps out.

I ran across a sharepost written by Dr. Bill Quick, titled "Dietary Advice for people with diabetes."

Dale, you mentioned heart problems and respritory problems. Have you talked to your husband's Doctor or Pharmacist to see if the mediciation he is taking causes his glucose levels to rise?  I know some medication cause glucose to rise.  I hope this helps.
