Vincent-

Hello! This is a hard question to answer. When I was diagnosed back in 2004, I stayed away from anything that had over 34 grams of carbs, pasta carbs and sweets.  I was able to keep my blood sugar under control.  Fastforward to 2009--I eat the same as I did in 2004 but I incorporated a little more food.  I eat in moderation and try not to overdue what I eat. I figured why not have the foods I enjoy but in moderation.  Click here, it will take you to our Diabetes Diet section.  You'll find information on carb counting, recipes and more. If you need anything let us know.

Thank You for responding to me question.  I have another great concern my son

is now a long haul truck driver.  Although it is to soon to know for sure there is

a very good chance he will lose his job because of the diabetes and therefore

his health insurance.    This all seems to awful !!!!!

Some ideas for breakfast :   Egg beater omelette with veggies OR whey or soy protein smoothie (no sugar) with Greek no fat yogurt and strawberries, and cinnamon.

Optional: steel cut oats or oat bran, if on medication.   If no meds, grains will spike some.

Lunch and dinner:  Salad, or Greek salad,  Chicken or Lean beef, or salmon -- choose one with healthy veggies:  broccoli, zucchini, onions, green and red peppers, spinach.

Low glycemic pasta: Dreamfield's Pasta - small portion .

Best fruits: plums, cherries, strawberries, all berries, then mangoes, pears, peaches.,...

Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts -- good for healthy snack ( raw is better) and unsalted.

Sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds : good snack.  Some Atkin bars -- in moderation.

Also: try to book an appointment with a certified diabetes educator/nutritionist.

South Beach diet helped me.
