one new treatment is incretin mimetics- incretins are gut hormones which increase insulin production after a meal, and slow gut motility down. The problem with giving incretins is that they break down rapidly. So one medicine is a synthetic incretin which works longer; and another medicine blocks the breakdown of incretins.
