Normal blood sugar runs between 80-120. A child has a rougher time keeping their blood sugars in this range. Most doctors will set a specific range for the child which takes their age into consideration. My son has been diabetic since the age of 2 (now 13). When he was younger, it was more acceptable for his sugars to run higher than "normal". Now that he is older, his endo wants them closer to normal and we try to keep them under 200.

My son has had type one for 3 years.  Our endo. told us that if it was regularly 150 to call him.  He told us if it was ever 200 to call him on our way to the ER.  He wants it kept under 120 and above 70.
