Q: when is the best time to test - before or after meals?

I'm new to this. Last lab tes A1C was7  (154) so my med person has asked me to test my blood level 3x day and record it for her viewing at my next appt. in a month.  she didn't say when was the best time to test.  I've been testing just before eating, and I've taken to eating about every 3 hours or so - small portions.  My numbers were jumping all over the place first week.  Av. bout 150 with spikes to 240 and once 316.  After that I realy watched my diet and exercise and my 7day av. is 111. Should I be testing after meals (2hrs) instead?  I've also watched calories and lost about 8 lbs. so far.

Both the tests are equally important. You have to test exactly 2 hrs after a meal, and one test after you wake up in the morning without having anything to eat or drink in the morning which is called fasting sugar .

You want a large spectrum of times and events to see a pattern

never test at the same time and also test one day before and the next day after
