Q: Can you take diet pills along with you diabetes meds?

Before I became a diabetic I use to be on diet pills to help me lose weight and it was working. Then I became a diabetic and I was told I couldn't take them no more, but was never told why.

Hi Ronnikia2008,

Taking any kind of medication or suppliment when you are diabetic could be a disaster. You do not know what kind of interaction you will have when you do. When taking medications or suppliments, you should always consult your doctor (which is sounds like you did and that's great!)

Online sites are great places to get the information you need to ask all the right questions, but they can never replace your doctor's solid medical advice.

Here is some general information about diabetes that might help you ask questions. Make sure you have pencil and paper handy to write down your questions.

There is a great overview about diabetes here. You can read about the symptoms that indicate possible diabetes, possible causes and risk factors that contribute to type 2 diabetes, the medications generally prescribed for diabetics, tips about lifestyle changes and diet and exercise that can help, and treatments currently being used.

Take care and stay in touch! Let us know how you are doing!
