Bethany,

Love travel and love Italy even more!  Travel, food and diabetes I can relate to.  What to do, what you need can feel intimidating!  When I was in Italy 3 years ago, I took some provisions from home, cliff bars and trail mix, that I used while wondering streets and relics.  I also carried my pocket calorie king with me and used it to look at carbs on the plate and bolused accordingly.  I found eating over there was no different than eating here.  In other words, carb counting doesn't change like the language does.  What you do need to figure out is how your body responds when traveling.  When I travel I tend to need less insulin.  Make sure to take extra bg sticks for testing as that will also be guide to what you need.

Ciao!

I was told to stick to tomato-based pasta sauces and avoid creamy ones - they have more fat.
