I agree, see a doctor.  It could be fluid retention, or as bad as heart or urinary problems.  It even could be a reaction to a medicine.

Well I went to my doc and he said he had seen a lot worse.  He said to walk some or as much as I could.  Even tho I am on the pump and take BP meds he didn't feel that was the problem.  He placed me on magnesium and krill oil for Omega 3's.

My feet were really sore on the bottom and at the ankles from the swelling.  Well after a bit of walking and a few days of Bumetide (diuretic) the swelling is almost gone.

He also suggested support knee highs.  I only wear them when I will be out and on my feet for a long time.  I really don't like them but they sure eliminate the leg and foot pain.

Good luck to all

K - try the thigh high support/compression stockings.  Your dermatologist can usually help determine what compression you need, at least mine did, write a prescription you can take to a medical supply house, where they will size you.  Once you have tried them, if you want more, you can go to e-bay and shop very carefully.

Thanks.  Now you have my curiosity.  Why would your Dermatologist prescribe compression hose?  That is unless you have an ulcer or other skin condition.

Usually it would be ones Endocrinologist or Internal Medicine physician.

I can't use thigh highs due to the fact I recently broke my leg and ankle and had surgery.Cry

I do have another condition called champagne and after seeing a half dozen or so doctors here, my dermatologist sent me to SF where they recognized it and prescribed the stockings.  I found knee highs almost unbearable because of my long, long stand edema.  I would swell in my upper leg, down to the band of the knee highs and they would dig deeper and deeper into my leg tissues.  Not good for a diabetic.  This does not happen with the thigh highs and they come with stay up bands too - no garters needed.

Sorry about your leg, hope healing proceeds quickly.  You might try a TENS machine, if you are not wearing a brace.

Ah, typos and not proof reading before sending!  It is champagne leg, my endo sent me to a dermatologist, my PCP sent me to my endo and to an ortho.  My dermatologist was booked so solid I went to see two others before getting in to see  him.  And the edema is long standing.
