Hi Sandy,

Pre diabetes is a growing problem and it can be alleviated with some life style changes.  What happens with pre diabetes is the cells in your body are starting to reject the insulin needed to breakdown sugar in the blood, eventually this can lead to type 2 diabetes.

Here are two links to information regarding pre diabetes and what you can do to help yourself.  At this point you can absolutely change the outcome!

You should not need insulin injections with pre diabetes, it can be greatly improved by food and exercise.  Should it become more serious then you may need insulin and probably in the oral form.

A great place to start to understand food maybe to read some of David Mendosa's blogs.  He is really great on the food issue for diabetes.  If you click on his profile, then go to his shareposts. he has tons on food and information about diabetes diets.

Another place for you to check out is HopeWarshaw.  She is a nutritionist and diabetes educator.  Her site has lots of information to help you get started and her books lend a lot of information on the basics which is what you are looking to understand.   American Diabetes Association (ADA) has lots of basic food guidelines as well.

You can check out at foodfit.com, which is one of our sister sites here.  They have some great recipes and all the nutritional information posted to help you learn about healthy choices and options. I just started using their newsletter to help spur my brain for meals and it's been great!
