Q: What does it mean when my doctor tells me that I am Type 1 prediabetic

I have a concern - my Internal Medicine doctor gave me a specific diet and said that I was "becoming" Type 1 diabetic. No matter what I do I continue to lose wt. and I am underweight as it is. I am 53.11 months old and suffered most of my life with hypoglycemia. I have multiple diseases - the ones that are diet related are multiple GI problems from my MS, Osteopenia, & now problem w/ my sugar. I have diets from 3 doctors for specific health conditions & they all contraindicate themself. How many grams of sugar is safe for me to consume per day? I read food labels constantly but need help.  The GI doctor wants me to eat lots of fruit but obviously that is not the thing I should now be doing. I am a young widow living alone & need some help w/ this.
