Q: My daughter is 8 & was just diagnosed w/ Diabetes type 1 on 8/9/11. Most days she only needs 1 insulin injection with a mix. What can we do to prevent her from losing any more pancreatic function?
She was not sick, they caught her diabetes at a check up. Her first A1C was 8 and she will not take another until November. She doesn't need any insulin overnight as that is when it seems her pancreas is functioning the most. Often nights at Dinner she is not getting any insulin either. If she does it is just 1 unit. In the morning get gets 4 of the Humalog and 8 of the NPH. Let me know if there is anything we can do to stop the islet or beta cells from deteriorating.
