Hi Joan,

Thank you for your question. Rapid heartbeat is not a side effect that I've seen listed for Byetta. However, that doesn't mean it's not the cause. Every person reacts differently to every medication. If you think that the Byetta is causing a rapid heartbeat, you should discuss it with your doctor.

Best of luck,

Casey

I am currently taking Byetta and am looking for a different drug for my type 2. I don't know about rapid heart beat but I double over with stomach pains for up to 2 hours after using mine. That's 4 hours out of my day that I lose due to being curled up in bed or in my recliner. I suggest that you see your doc to make sure the Byetta is not your problem.

You should check with your doctor on that issue, but I hope you have heard of the link between Byetta and pancreaitis.  This issue has been discussed in the news in the past few weeks and is worth asking your doctor about as well.

I have been using Byetta for over a year now. When I first began to take it I was having the stonach pain. I changed the location of where I put the shot and that issue resolved itself.

The only problem I have is my current Insurance will nto cover it and I will have to discontinue using it.

I do have good things to say. I lost 40lbs in the year that I have been taking this medication and that alone has helped to lower my blood sugars.

I don't know about my heart beating faster.  I was so sick for the year that I was on Byetta.  I threw up all the time.  But my diabetes doctor insisted that I continue that I would adjust.  I never did.  I have heart disease and my general doctor was afraid I was weaking my heart from all the throwing up.  I am now having problem with my digestive system and they don't seem to know why.  I think it was the Byetta.  To many other problems have accured to mention.

I've been using Byetta for a couple of years now and until recently I've had no problems.  For the past couple of months, i've been experiencing the pain in my stomach and the 'sensation' of a more rapid (pounding) heartbeat.  I'm not sure if the 'sensation' is caused to inflammation around the diaphrams, stomach, intestines, etc--putting pressure on the chest cavity bring attention to my heartbeats.  I'm going to see a cardiologist to rule out any heart problems.
