Q: Why has my ability to handle fruit in my diet been so compromised?

When I first became a diabetic I was still able to eat a moderate amount of fruit (apples, bananas or pears - with a small shot of insulin -2 units).  Now I can't even eat a half piece of these fruits without a large injection.  And what's even more disturbing is the late increase in my numbers hours later even though i've given myself 5 plus units of humalog.

I am 60, thin and and I exercise.  Could age be a factor?

Charles-

Hello! Your insulin requirements can change overnight. You maybe less active your pancrea's may be putting less insulin out or you could be insulin resistant.  Speaking from my own experience.  My blood glucose levels got went out of control.  I could eat 15 grams of carb's and my bg's would be 180.  I went to the Doc had more blood work done and find out my pancrea's wants pumping like it was 2 years ago.  Talk to your Doc, let him/her know what's going on.  You may also need to try another insulin, I can't honestly say.  I hope you get everything figure out soon.
