Q: If an elderly person's blood sugar at bedtime is 60, would you still give the injection of Lantus

that is ordered at bedtime. I do not know all the details but to me this insulin should be held and the doctor should be made aware. Please comment. Thank you.

Barbara-

Hello! I am a diabetic and insulin dependent. You do not want to hold out on giving the Lantus at night. The shot of lantus covers him all night and all day. I would suggest giving him a snack something with about 15g of carbs before he or she goes to bed. I know when my bg's are about 60-70 before bed I give myself a snack and I am fine in the morning and I don't wake up with any low's in the middle of the night. You should also consult with their Physician and see if they have any advice for you. If you click here, it will take you to our drug information section. You will be able to find out more about lantus and how it is used.

Take care
