I got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 18 years old.

I have been a diabetic for 10 years. My doctor keeps on telling me I should change to a pump. But I am still scared of it. Right now I take Lantus and Humalog. I've had hypoglycemia at least once a day for the past 3 weeks. Do you guys suggest the pump? What is your experience with the pump?

Dear Yoil: Any change is difficult. Lantus and humalog via multiple injections are a very effective way to control your diabetes. The biggest difference with the pump vs. Lantus and humalog is that there is usually less hypoglycemia with the pump because you can have multiple basal rates (Lantus amount broken down by different time periods using humalog). I have written several blogs about the advantages and disadvantages of pump vs. multiple injections on www.mydiabetescentral.com. Please feel free to check out(the blogs are in the first 10). Hope this helps!
