Hello Maudina.  My mother too has diabetes. Recently this year, around April, my mother started to have swelling in her feet and her legs.  Later that month, her lower abdomen started to get bigger. We took her into the emergency room, and the Dr. said it was due to her liver.  My mother has hepatitis B or C.  I think its C.  She has had hepatitis for a couple of years now. Her Dr.'s say her liver is failing and it is not working like a normal liver would.  Because of the liver's malfunction, it is causing fluid to get backed up.  It starts in the lower astremities and works it way up. You should ask your Dr. to check on your liver.  It could be this reason...but im sure there could be a million reasons too.  Hope this guides you in right direction, and good luck to you.
