Tuesday, November 17, 2009 jamielovesbrad asks

Q: About a year ago my a1c was 5.9. The doctor checked it again yesterday and it has risen to 6.1.

My dad had diabetes really bad and my mom was recently diagnosed.  I was wondering if that is high enough to be considered diabetes and if I need to be on medication or not.  Also my liver enzymes were elevated to the point of her doing the test over.  I don't know if that has anything to do with possible diabetes or not. I am a 30 year old female.   Thanks for any help you can give.  Jamie

A1c is a reading for the past 3 months.so after a year the readings are bound to change.

6.1 is not alarming, but go by doctor's advise to keep it under control.

My sugar levels do run high though.  Not like through the roof, but 132-193 all the time.
