Hi Kristen,

My understanding is that Byetta is not approved for use during pregnancy.  Several diabetes medications are not compatible with pregnancy, so if you're taking Byetta for diabetes (in addition to weight loss) your doctor will likely prescripe something else for you to take during your pregnancy.

If you have type 2 diabetes and do not use insulin, you may begin taking insulin during pregnancy to control your blood sugars.

Please check with your doctor and have a "preconception consultation."  They'll explain which drugs to discontinue while you try to conceive (for example, I stopped taking a daily ACE inhibitor) and they'll work with you to establish target blood sugars during conception.  This is a critical time for your diabetes management, so please talk with your doctor before trying to get pregnant.

Good luck!
