Q: Metformin and headaches

I've been using metformin for a week now, and have been experiencing serious headaches since the third day.  I've been told that time should mitigate this pain.  How much time should I give it?  There are times when it is so bad I cry out due to it, and the tension in my forehead can be felt.

Scratch that question.  They've changed me to Avandia, and I see that headache is a side effect for that, too.  Hopefully I'm not as receptive to it with Avandia as I've proven with metformin.
