Q: i am diabetes type2 had sarcodoisis it had been treated fo a year with prednisone.

i had diabetes type 2 after a year treatment with prednisone because of sarcodoisis ..lately my magnesium was at a critical level the dr give me a supplement mag 2000mg daily

but still very low

what cause the magnesium to go that low ..I am very worry the doctor didn't explain much but he want me to monitor it monthly

it's hard to say- are you on other meds (including insulin)?- if not, perhaps the steroid caused it via bone metabolism- i'll presume you were on a Ca (/Vit D) supplement to prevent bone loss, which can happen on chronic steroids (especially for women- won't guess your age :))- what is NOT well known is that it's important to take Mg along with Ca- chronic high Ca/Mg ratio is associated with heart disease, as well as insulin resistance- so if you have any (family) history of osteoporosis, or any bone pain, i would ask the doc if any diagnostics warranted with the steroid/low Mg status- good luck and remember- if anyone starts to annoy you, just tell them you have sarcoidosis- they'll probably leave you alone then :)
