Is it possible for a person being treated with insulin to take injections only in the morning and at bed time? Is it okay for a diabetic to drink 16 to 24 oz.of orange juice in one sitting without any food?

It's nice to have a concerened sister on the site. Your sister has to follow the Doctor's orders when it comes to "when" she injects her insulin. As far as the orange juice goes, I stay away from it way too much sugar and too many carbs. I would suggest, what Frank said,'Small glass or watered down." I love eating oranges but don't want to take the risk of drinking OJ.

morning/bedtime regimens are fine, unless your A1C is increasing on it, then you probably need something different (e.g lunch coverage)- unfortunately, (O)J is probably the worst food for DM- you are, however, spot on in highlighting the difference in taking it with a meal- i would advise you to get rid of OJ completely- however, if you really like it, then of course you can drink it- just try a smaller cup (or water it down) with a meal- in fact, if you can drink a small cup with a meal, and your sugar 2h later is @ 140, then keep the juice no worries- a fresh orange would be better- good luck and remember- annette funicello didn't have DM!?
