My Mom who is 74 years old, and who has heart problems since 1995. had a five by pass surgery. and has diabitis for 5 years kept under control with medication.  Started seeing a doctor for severe arthritus problems 3 months ago, put her on several medications that stopped the pain for her, but now cant get the sugar to level off.  It stays around 220 and has even went up tp 408 and he had to give her insulin, last friday.  Now he has her on some pills  called actoplus met 15mg/850 twice a day.  Will this help her, and what else can she do?  She has type 2 diabities.

Arthritis can cause high sugar through inflammation, which raises hormones that resist insulin. And drugs can raise sugar directly (if sugar is in ingredients) or via metabloism (especially steroids, which cause insulin resistance). Actos and metformin should help- they both lower insulin resistance. The best she can do is low CHO/high pro/veg meals.

Annie-

Hello! If you click the highlighted words, actos and metformin. If your mother is experiencing high blood sugar you should talk to her Physician to see if there is an alternative, they may have to make medication adjustments or they make think every thing is fine. I hope you all will find a happy medium. I understand the stress and heath issues of having high blood sugars for a long period of time.

Take care

Not alot can be tolerated at her age, simple exercise, obviously a better diet, but if she has stomach problems, check carefully with the doctor

Not Arthritus itself, but the drugs that I can afford do raise my already elavated blood sugars.  I have been fighting the side effects for over 5 years, my heath is much worse then it was five years ago.  I am unable to work now, and do not have coverage to offset the cost  of health care which might otherwise enable me to work .
