I went to the World Stem Cell Summit in September.  After listening to the doctors doing the research stem cells are not on the list for safely curing diabetes!  The problem with stem cells being injected at this point, is that there is not enough understood about stem cells to prevent them from becoming cancerous.  Yikes!  There was a case they used from a Russian lab that had dipped into injecting stem cells into a child who had a brain defect.  They defect was fixed, but the boy died 2 weeks later!   Here are two links to shareposts written on stem cells:   http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/9993/87830/summit-medicine   http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/9993/86087/embryonic-create   There are stem cells used in some therapeutic forms to help with complications, but none that will reverse type1.     There is research being done on newly diagnosed that shows great ability to slowdown the breakdown of beta cells.  Look at the JDRF website and there is a new program Clinical Trials and see what comes up for you to consider.   http://www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?page_id=101984   Please feel free to ask more specific questions if you daughter is having an issue and I might be able to point you toward some trials or information to help.  But if she is a type 1, and doing well, I would look toward pumps, artificial pancreas project and smart insulin as a next best for diabetes management!   Hang in there mom!
