Hi Elizabeth. Yes it is quite scary, confusing and overwhelming at first. But the good news is that it is very controllable and you get to control it, it won't control you unless you let it.  I found that by concentrating on my BG levels and getting them in line, weight that I needed to get rid of just fell off and my blood chemistry became better than it had been for decades. so for me becoming diabetic has made me healthier in general.

I have been living with Diabetes for over 10 years.   It wasn't until about 2 years ago that I started taking this seriously because every time I went to the doctor it kept going up and up.  Then more medications and more.  I was also gaining weight due to poor eating habits and lack of any type of exercise.  When I started reading what could happen if I did not control myself I got a little scared.  Now I diet and exercise  not too extreme and I'm loosing weight and taking less medications.
