Q: Is it true that dairy products can cause type 1 diabetes?

Is it true that dairy products or eating a diet based on animal products can cause Type 1 diabetes? Our grand-daughter (age 6) is newly diagnosed with Type 1, some people suggest she may have reacted to immunizations before her 1st grade, to dairy/meat products, or to her recently fractured arm 6 weeks ago.  If one were to go on a Vegan diet could the "honeymoon" period be extended?

the jury is still out on the link between cow milk and type I- there does seem to be some sort of correlation in northern european areas- I would guess there's some genetic component- that is, did you or her other family drink cow milk at a young age? if so, with no type I, the correlation remains loose- the vegan diet is likely healthier anyway, just make sure she gets good sources of calcium and iron for healthy growth-  good luck
