Pre Diabetes is a stage before full blown Diabetic.   You may also want to check what is your 3 month average Blood Sugar value - HbA1c.  That will also indicate your risk category. Did the Doctor perform any other tests to determine whether you are type I or Type II.  Before jumping on any diet (of course Low Carb is the best diet for Diabetics) - you need to read additional materials to understand more on the medical condition since diabetes is a condition that we need to battle all through our life. Read the Chapter 1 from Jack Challem - "Stop Pre Diabetes Now" book - available in his web site (http://www.thenutritionreporter.com/stopprediabetes/default.html) and get to know better on what additional tests that you may need your Dr to perform. Please note that some of the test your medical insurance may not for - be watch ful over there. Apart from the above - you may want to consider doing the following: Educate Yourself on the disorder and the available paths o Read Dr Richard K Bernstein's Diabetes Solution Book (http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/) o Read www.mendosa.com and his blog o Read Dr Michael Eades blogs - www.proteinpower.com/drmike o Read Gretchen Becker's posts in Health Central A diet low in Carb will help you to o Lose Weight o Control Blood Sugar close to normal non-diabetic range o Cardio numbers (Triglycerides, HDL, LDL, VLDL and CPI) will be in the good or better range Buy a good Blood Glucose monitoring meter (1 touch ultra smart or Bionime Righttest 300) and check the BG before and after meal to make sure that you stay within range - 85 to 95 - 2 hours after the first bite. Educating self is the key for the long term success. Diabetes is nothing but a nutritional disorder and as long one maintains the BG (Blood Glucose) between 85-90 - we can lead a normal lifestyle. Let me know if you need any help. All the best!! Thanks
