Perhaps.  Having a parent with Type 1 Diabetes greatly increases the risk to children, but they may not get Type 1 Diabetes.  DM is a combination of inheritance and environmental, but we are not sure what environmental causes actually trigger DM.  Sometimes DM can even skip a generation.  I am a Type 1 Diabetic, my parents did not have diabetes, but my grandparents on both sides did have Type 2 Diabetes.  My children do not have diabetes (age 19-23) but I worry about my grandchildren now.  My kids were in studies to see if they were becoming diabetic, and my grandchildren will be enrolling in similiar new studies.  Good luck, and good health to you and your children!

Hello! I agree with Fred.  Diabetes can be inherited it's a gene. I also agree that diabetes has a lot to do with our environment, especially with Type 2. I am a diabetic Type 1.5/LADA. I don't know of anyone in my immediate family who has diabetes. I am the only one.  The best thing to do is watch for the signs in your children and pray your children don't get it. If they do develop diabetes they can live a healthy long life w/o complications.
