I have been diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. I have been living with this for over a year. I have not been able to find any specialists in the Southern California area. I've ended up seeing a Rheumatologist who had to research MG in order to assist me. He has started me on Prednisone and Immuran which have cleared up my double vision and closing eye problems but I'm still having some difficulty with muscle tiredness and fatigue. Some minor swallowing difficulties but no breathing difficulties as yet. My primary care physician is a family practice specialist so does not deal with this disease either. The Rheumatologist wants me to be seeing a neurologist at the same time that I am seeing him. We're thinking that my initial diagnoses of Diabetes Type 2 may be the MG. Without meds I have brought my A1C from 10.6 to 4.7 my most recent (5 days ago) taking prednisone was 5.8) Why does a neurologist need to be involved? The HMO I have has only 3 Neurologist in the area; one is not interested in treating me, one is not Board Certified but is an OD and one is quite some distance away. Help?
