What is Diabetes?

At a Glance

Type 1 Diabetes has a more severe disease process than Type 2, and onset is typically in childhood.  Beta cells in the pancreas are gradually destroyed, causing insulin deficiency. This causes blood glucose levels to skyrocket, as there is no insulin to move glucose into cells. Therefore, diabetics rely on administered insulin for survival.
