A study published in the journal Diabetes Care found that a spice found in curry may help prevent diabetes.
In a nine month trial of 235 people with prediabetes, the participants who were given the compound curcumin, found in turmeric – a spice commonly present in curry – were less likely to develop Type 2 diabetes.
Experts are not sure why or how curcumin protects the body from diabetes, but were quick to stress that the study was not long enough to definitively say that curcumin on its own can effectively control diabetes. Rather, researchers suggest combining it with a healthy lifestyle.
