AVANDAMET Oral

Uses and How to Use

Generic Name: ROSIGLITAZONE/METFORMIN - ORAL
Pronounced: (row-sih-GLIT-uh-zone/met-FOR-min)

AVANDAMET Oral Uses

This combination medication is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). This medication works by helping to restore your body's proper response to the insulin you naturally produce. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, and circulation problems, as well as sexual function problems (decrease in sexual ability). Rosiglitazone belongs to a class of drugs known as thiazolidinediones or "glitazones." Metformin is a biguanide-type drug.

How To Use AVANDAMET Oral

Read the Patient Information Leaflet available from your pharmacist before you start taking this medication and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth, usually once or twice daily with a meal or as directed by your doctor.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Taking more than 8 milligrams of rosiglitazone per day, or more than 2000 milligrams of metformin per day, is not recommended unless your doctor directs otherwise.

Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time(s) each day.
