Avandaryl Oral

Uses and How to Use

Generic Name: ROSIGLITAZONE/GLIMEPIRIDE - ORAL
Pronounced: (row-sih-GLIH-ta-zone/glih-MEH-pih-ride)

Avandaryl Oral Uses

This medication is a combination of two drugs, rosiglitazone and glimepiride. It is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). Effectively controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, and circulation problems, as well as sexual function problems (impotence).

Rosiglitazone-containing medications are best used only when other medications (metformin) cannot be taken.

Rosiglitazone belongs to a class of drugs known as thiazolidinediones or "glitazones". It works by helping to restore your body's proper response to insulin, thereby lowering your blood sugar.

Glimepiride belongs to a class of drugs known as sulfonylureas. It works by stimulating the release of your body's natural insulin.
