JANUVIA Oral

Uses and How to Use

Generic Name: SITAGLIPTIN - ORAL
Pronounced: (sit-a-GLIP-tin)

JANUVIA Oral Uses

Sitagliptin is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). Controlling blood sugar helps to prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, circulation problems, and sexual function problems. Sitagliptin may be used alone or with other diabetes medications taken by mouth (e.g., metformin, rosiglitazone, pioglitazone).

This drug works by increasing levels of natural hormones called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar and increase insulin release, especially after a meal. They also decrease the amount of sugar your liver makes.

How To Use JANUVIA Oral

Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using sitagliptin and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day.

Check your blood sugar regularly as directed by your doctor, and tell your doctor the results. Tell your doctor if your blood sugar is too high or low.
