Experts say people who are overweight should be screened for Type 2 diabetes earlier than normally recommended. According to the American Diabetes Association, screening for diabetes is cost effective when done starting at age 30, rather than waiting until age 45. The study's authors say that screening overweight individuals at age 30 could help them avoid heart attacks and other complications of high blood sugar.
